so sorry i haven't posted anything in awhile. i'm redecorating my house and i've been a little obsessed with that lately. 

there's a new place that just opened on 3rd between La Brea and Fairfax called Hands-On 3rd

Hands-On 3rd is a workshop that offers classes in anything crafty! they do emphasize in sewing, knitting, crochet. they have great workshops that would entice any diy wedding bride. i noted a few classes below:

Fascinator:

i'm loving these barn weddings. i kinda wish it was greener but it might be the season this wedding was in. i'm hoping spring would have more green meadows. this place also has a portable firepit so i love that this couple decided to have build your own smores for their guests!

these are the CUTEST details that i've ever seen for a wedding.

here is some background info for the inspiration:
"It was 1983, Minhee was new in her 4th grade class. She asked her mom to bring some cupcakes to celebrate her summer birthday during the last day of school. So her mother came and with delight started serving Minhee's birthday treats. However to Minhee's dismay, they were not the cupcakes she asked for. All the kids started to make fun of the traditional korean treats that Minhee's mom brought. However, there was one boy named Truman that just so loved the korean treats. He saw that Minhee felt sad and decided to eat as much as he can. He thanked Minhee's mom and continued to stuff his tiny stomach."

How CUTE is that? i wish my boyfriend and i had some interesting story we could incorporate into our wedding. i'll have to think of one.

frustration

i hate copying and pasting verbatim but when i read this, i thought i found my long lost twin. this is EXACTLY how i feel and i don't see it letting up anytime soon :(

"Growing up, upon finding out about something fun I were going to do in the near future, I used to make myself sick with excitement. I suspect it’s the same with many children, but I’ve never really grown out of it. Instead of a stomach ache, adult me just gets really, really obsessed with the matter at hand. Say, for example, Mr. Mary Jane and I had decided to get a kitten, but we wouldn’t get him for a month. I’d spend that whole month reading everything there is to know about kittens, looking at pictures of kittens, visiting kittens in the humane society, talking to kitten-owners about their vets, and buying cute crap for the kitten to play with when it arrived. I’d probably even make color-coded kitten-related charts. I like to be in control, and I like to plan. And when I can’t get what I want right now, I want to know when I will get it so that I can prepare. I have no excuse for this; it’s a flaw of mine. (And yes, I’m an only child. What gave it away?)

This surprise-engagement thing really bothered me. Again, I wasn’t after the ring, but it was symbolic for the next step to come. I was confused as to why Mr. Mary Jane didn’t want us to be engaged right away. I wondered how long I’d have to wait. I’m generally a “glass-half-empty” person, especially when it comes to matters concerning my character. I wondered what was wrong with me. Was he thinking twice about our future? (I have NO reason to suspect this.) Why wasn’t he as excited to get engaged as I was? I kept pushing the subject. I got annoying. I tried to get him to talk about wedding styles. About guest lists. I sent him links to wedding stuff. He was pretty tolerant, but I knew I shouldn’t be bugging him so much. I was being dumb. I knew it meant a lot to him to do the proposal his own way, on his own time. But I couldn’t let it drop.

I got pushier and pushier as time passed. Valentine’s day came and went, but not without me wondering if maybe he had the ring - maybe it was somehow possible. He gave me a beautiful pink marquise ring for my right hand for Valentine’s Day (along with other thoughtful gifts).

I started to get angry about the whole situation. I am the first to admit that I have traditional values regarding family. I would love to be a housewife, I love when Mr. Mary Jane does manly things for me to help me out (even though I’m quite capable), and I love being ’taken care of’ by him. But this proposal thing had my feminist waters boiling. Weren’t we supposed to be doing this as equals? As a couple? Why did HE get to see the ring? Why should HE get to choose when to propose? It just made me jealous and mad. I felt like he was stringing me along, teasing me, or maybe even trying to teach me a lesson about patience. It was bringing out the worst in me."

you should read the whole thing. i was going to write my own but i don't write as eloquently as she does. i feel even worse than this, if you can imagine that, because we haven't even done the ring shopping! i am getting extremely frustrated which i know is not fair to him but i don't care! i think i'm starting to get really depressed about this whole thing. :(

and what ms. mary jane said about the whole equality thing really struck a chord in me. i got upset over this same matter a few weekends ago at my boyfriend. and i still really don't think it's fair. why is he making all the decisions? why am i not involved? i think i would feel a little better if he spoke to me about it but he doesn't. and when you think about it, traditionally the guy doesn't necessarily know if the girl is going to say yes. since he does know, i feel its unfair for him to keep me waiting for so long! both he and i know we're going to get married, what's the holdup?

grr. i know im crazy. but i can't help myself.

well lucky me, i just found a blog on how to buy my own letterpress printer here if any of you are interested. its fairly cheap- only $300 for the specific one cake & pie noted on their blog. i'll keep you posted if i actually do buy one!

How to:

•Step 1: Brush hair down and back into a ponytail and secure with a hair elastic.

•Step 2: Mist hair with hairspray.

•Step 3: Secure the hair piece to your head by clipping it around the ponytail holder. (See photo.)

•Step 4: Wrap hair piece into a bun and secure with bobby pins. (See photo.) Set with hairspray. 

Works on: Chin-length hair

What you'll need:

•Hot rollers (try: Conair Infiniti Flocked Rollers, $54.99 or Vidal Sassoon Ionic Molecular Steam Setter, $20.99)

Bobby pins

•Hairspray (try Aveda Air Control Hair Spray, $23 or John Frieda Frizz-Ease Moisture Barrier Firm-Hold Hairspray, $5.49)

How to:

•Step 1: Set hair with hot rollers and allow them to cool. Remove.

Step 2: Using bobby pins, start with the top and side sections of hair and form hair into coils, then pin them softly back. Then pin hanging ends toward the center of head, again in a coil shape. (See photos.)

•Step 3: Set with hairspray.

Works on: Medium to long hair

What you'll need:

•Hot rollers (try: Conair Infiniti Flocked Rollers, $54.99 or Vidal Sassoon Ionic Molecular Steam Setter, $20.99)

•Bobby pins

•Teasing comb or small-toothed comb (try Ulta Styling Comb with Lift, $2.75)

•Hairspray (try Aveda Air Control Hair Spray, $23.00 or John Frieda Frizz-Ease Moisture Barrier Firm-Hold Hairspray, $5.49)

How to:

•Step 1: Set hair with hot rollers for added body and allow them to cool before removing.

•Step 2: Tease hair at the crown of your head to add volume and lightly spray with hairspray for hold, then smooth over the top layer of the teased area with a brush.

•Step 3: Gather hair into a low ponytail and twist it upward so that it creates a roll shape. (See photo.)

•Step 4: Secure the roll area with bobby pins and then wrap the hanging tail around (tucking in any loose ends and securing those with bobby pins as well). Finish by setting with hairspray.

Works on: Medium to long hair

What you'll need:

•Hot rollers (try: Conair Infiniti Flocked Rollers, $54.99 or Vidal Sassoon Ionic Molecular Steam Setter, $20.99)

•Hairspray (try Dove Flexible Hold Hairspray, $4.29 or Aveda Witch Hazel Hair Spray, $10)

•Jeweled clip (Scunci Genuine Crystal Clips, $3.29)

How to:

•Step 1: Apply hot rollers to the entire head. (See photo.) Allow to cool.

•Step 2: Once hot rollers have set, remove and finger comb hair to soften the curls. (See photo.)

•Step 3: Loosely pin back one side of the front section of your hair with a jeweled clip.

•Step 4: Set your style with a light-hold hairspray.

Works on: Long hair

What you'll need:

•Hair elastic

•Bobby pins

•Hot rollers or 1" curling iron

How to:

•Step 1: Using hot rollers or curling iron, create loose curls throughout your hair.

•Step 2: Divide hair into four sections: one on the far left side of your hair, two in the middle and one on the far right.

•Step 3: Take one of the four sections (on the far right or left -- depending on the side you want your pony to fall on) and secure it into a low pony.

•Step 4: Take the middle two sections and pin them on top of the secured pony. (See photo.)

•Step 5: Take the last section on the far side of your head and wrap it around the pony and the pinned sections to bring them all together. (See photo.) Pin that final section into place.

Pasadena has the great rose bowl flea market every 2nd sunday of the month and if you've never been, its HUGE. last time i went, which was just a couple of weeks ago, i saw tons of jars, bottles, vases for cheap!
